The goal of any older adult is to remain independent and functional as long as possible. Older adults do not want to rely on others to help them dress, bathe, or perform the daily activities that they have done by themselves for many years. They want to continue to mow the lawn, travel, play with their grandchildren, and take care of themselves without help for as long as possible ….It is now clear that the beneficial effects of regular activity are observable in almost all older persons, regardless of their physical health or functional limitations. Several excellent studies have focused attention on the benefits of regular physical activity for older adults who were previously thought to be too old or too frail to participate in structured exercise programs. - From Functional Fitness for Older Adults by Patricia A.
